Awesome Work of God through this book! August 1, 2007 Liaglynn (Army Wife, All over!) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok, we all know this book is to be a cookbook. However, I failed to see the rules of publishing a book like this. Because we live in this great country that my husband (& many others) lay their lives down on the line every day to fight for you to have "free speech", I believe she and every other writer has the freedom to write whatever they want. Just as you have the right to do here. For those other Christians who are cutting-up the writer because she had the bravery that you lack in spreading the gospel, you should be ashamed of yourselves! Seriously, we are to encourage and life up our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. What kind of example are we setting for the non-believers when we do that? For those who have not yet found Jesus, just seek and you will find. If you can't bear to hear the truth or seek it out for yourself, then simply close the book and you will be in our prayers that someday you will find salvation before it is too late. No one is holding a weapon to your head and MAKING you read this material. But respect the fact that the writer is following her Lord and Savior when Paul tells us... "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." That is what she is doing here. Get over it. Life is too short to be so argumentative. May you find the truth and you be delivered from the darkness of your souls.
Much more than a cookbook July 26, 2006 Rockyn 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Yes, the folks who spoke of the Christian aspect of this book are correct. Personally, I loved this book so much that I have to buy a replacement. Ms Bond's candid stories of how she learned to be a freezer cooker are an inspiration! While I will probably never take on all the homey things she does, neither do I feel put down by her choice to do what she does. This is more about time & money management to better suit one's lifestyle than a cookbook. That's ok cause some of those freezer cookbooks have recipes we don't like. And then you have to figure out exactly how to adjust the shopping list -what a royal pain. How much more liberating to use recipes my family enjoys and make my own list as often or infrequently as I like. Jill Bond speaks like a gentle friend. Truthfully, but not hurtfully. I believe we can all benefit from her insights. But I still don't plan to cut my family's hair -LOL.
Praise Be to the Library! July 30, 2005 Nightowlin (Rhode Island) 17 out of 22 found this review helpful
I am very thankful that I could preview this book through my local library. I LOVE to cook. I don't find it to be a horrible chore. I just thought it would be great to have a selection of "home cooked" meals waiting in the freezer for those crazy days. I am a wife, a mother, a teacher, scout leader, a scout service team member, active in the schools, and on and on. The one thing that I am NOT is a Christian. This does not mean that I am not spiritual or religious, mind you. But, we are not here to talk about religion are we? I thought this was a COOKING book. More than that, I thought this was a book about planning, making and freezing foods in bulk. This is NOT what this book is at all. This book should be labelled as a book for Christians only - who would like to hear stories about other Christians and might enjoy a few recipes. In any event, if you are Christian an think you would enjoy this book, then order it now. If not, borrow it from the Library and maybe you will glean something from it. My copy will be returned as soon as my hectic life allows. Blessings to all -- no matter what religion you practice!
Waste of time and money April 3, 2004 19 out of 25 found this review helpful
The book is full of family stories that have nothing to do with freezing meals. The author did not adhere to the title's purpose. It was not professionally editted. If all of the clutter and child art was taken out, the book would be 20 pages long. Most of the recipes call for hydrogenated oil. The recipe pages are full of more stories and pictures that have nothing to do with the recipe. Your eyes must work around all of the clutter to find the recipes or instructions that truly add any quality advice about freezing food. Since I read this book, I've purchases more books about freezing food and all of them put this book to shame.
A System That Works! March 17, 2003 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this book and found it so interesting I read it in one sitting! I proceeded to follow directions in the book on how to shop, re-write the recipes. I did my mega-cooking for a month and saved hundreds of dollars. I had wonderful meals for a month and all I had to do was warm them up! This book is definintely for christians. I think working moms can find it useful as well. It is one of my favorites!
